Why I'm Proud to Endorse James Mendrick for Governor of Illinois

When I look at the leadership Illinois needs, I do not see more political talking points or billion-dollar ad campaigns. I see people who have shown up when it mattered most. That is why I am endorsing James Mendrick for Governor of Illinois.

Jim is not a career politician. He is a 30-year public safety professional who rose through the ranks of law enforcement and now serves as the elected Sheriff of DuPage County, one of the largest counties in our state. Since taking office in 2018, he has led that department with steady leadership and a clear focus on public safety, accountability, and community trust.

As sheriff, Jim began his career as a patrol deputy and worked his way into leadership long before he was elected. He has strengthened jail programs focused on rehabilitation and reducing repeat offenses, helping individuals leave crime behind and reenter society successfully. He has partnered with community and health agencies to confront the opioid crisis head-on. He understands that protecting families requires both strength and smart solutions.

Jim entered the governor's race because he believes Illinois deserves stronger leadership, especially when it comes to public safety. He has not stayed silent while policies coming out of Springfield make it harder to protect neighborhoods. He has spoken clearly about the direction our state needs to take.

But beyond his resume and positions, what matters most to me is trust.

Over the past few months, Jim and his wife Cyndi have become friends of mine. I have had the opportunity to spend time with them, talk with them personally, and see who they are outside of public office. They have proven something simple but powerful to me. I can count on them to show up.

Not just for events. Not just when cameras are around. But when it matters.

Illinois does not need another polished politician with the biggest campaign fund. It needs leadership grounded in character, experience, and consistency.

James Mendrick has proven to me that he has those qualities. That is why I am proud to endorse him. I encourage everyone to research him for themselves, examine his record as DuPage County Sheriff, and make an informed decision.

Leadership is not about money. It is about character.
