He Wasn't Shot for Carrying a Gun. He Was Shot for Using It Like a License to Be Stupid.

The lie being pushed about Alex Pretti's death is simple, emotional, and completely false. He was not killed for exercising his Second Amendment rights. He was not executed for lawfully carrying a firearm. He was killed because he interfered with a lawful arrest while armed and did so in a way that turned a tense situation into a deadly one.

Alex Pretti

That distinction matters. And the fact that so many people refuse to acknowledge it is exactly why this conversation needs to be had.

I carry a firearm every day. Millions of Americans do. And somehow, despite the hysterical claims that police are hunting gun owners, I have managed to live my entire life without being shot by law enforcement. Not because I am lucky. Not because I am privileged. But because I follow the most basic rule every responsible gun owner is taught: do not approach or interfere with police during an active law enforcement operation, especially while armed.

Scene

This is not advanced training. This is day-one, common-sense instruction. Any concealed carry class in America makes this crystal clear. A gun permit is not a badge. It is not moral authority. It is not permission to intervene, confront, or insert yourself into situations you do not control.

Pretti did exactly what responsible gun owners are warned never to do. He did not observe from a distance. He did not disengage. He did not call an attorney or file a complaint later. He moved toward officers in the middle of an arrest and made himself part of the encounter while armed. That is not bravery. That is recklessness.

Incident

He Was Not a Hero. He Was a Useful Idiot.

The left now wants to canonize Pretti as some kind of martyr. A hero. A symbol of resistance. That claim collapses under even the slightest scrutiny.

Heroes protect others. Heroes show discipline, judgment, and restraint. Heroes do not rush headlong into situations they do not understand while armed, escalating tension and forcing split-second decisions that end lives. What Pretti did was not heroic. It was impulsive, arrogant, and tragically predictable.

Scene 2

Worse, he was used. The activist machine needs bodies to fuel outrage cycles, and Pretti fit the script perfectly. For fifteen minutes of posthumous fame, he is being elevated as a cause instead of being treated as a cautionary example. That is not respect. That is exploitation.

Calling this "activism" is dangerous. It encourages the next armed bystander to believe that confrontation equals courage and that inserting yourself into police encounters is somehow noble. It is neither. It is a suicide mission dressed up as virtue, and the people promoting it will not be there when the next family gets the phone call.

Additional scene

The left does not care about responsible gun ownership. If they did, they would be condemning this behavior instead of celebrating it. They would be telling people to stay back, stay alive, and handle disputes through the legal system. Instead, they are selling a fantasy that ends the same way every time.

What makes this especially dangerous is the message being sent to other gun owners. By glorifying Pretti's actions and stripping them of context, activists are encouraging reckless behavior that puts civilians and police alike at risk. That is not justice. That is bloodsport politics.

Carrying a firearm comes with responsibility. That responsibility includes restraint, situational awareness, and knowing when to stay out of something that does not involve you. The Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms. It does not protect stupidity, ego, or a desire to be seen as a hero on social media.

This death was not the result of oppression. It was the result of bad decisions layered on top of arrogance and enabled by a culture that rewards recklessness as long as it advances the right narrative.

If we actually want fewer deaths, fewer shootings, and fewer tragedies, we need to stop lying about what happened here. Gun ownership demands maturity. Interfering with police while armed is not a protest. It is not heroism. It is stupidity. And pretending otherwise ensures it will happen again.
